I couldn’t think of a better time to write up a new blog post. I just finished my first full week of training in this new year, and am home, relaxing after an amazing day of training and spending time with my family, and am feeling very grateful.
This holiday season Team Paiva received lots of love and support from our family and friends, both old and new. We got a generous gift from Mark Bar, which we couldn’t even get a picture of fast enough before we had to try it. They are delicious and we are very appreciative.
I was personally gifted, from my head coach, some very cool vintage weightlifting memorabilia, a sweet pair barbell embellished socks, and as of today, an awesome new also vintage, weightlifting belt, circa 1997.
Following World’s in November we began a new training cycle, and this last week, which marked week 6 into my new cycle, couldn’t have gone better. Almost every training day came with personal records and happy dances. It looks as though 2015 is shaping up to be my best year yet. My goals for this year are to compete in my second IWF World Championship competition, and improve my total and international ranking.
My non lifting goal for the year is to be able to do a handstand press. I love doing yoga as a means of recovery, and a handstand press is a fun challenge as it requires flexibility, stability, and focus, all of which benefit me as a weightlifter.
Wishing everyone luck and happiness in the new year.
