On Wednesday, November 12th at 10:00 AM, Hala made history by being the first woman to represent Lebanon internationally in the sport of weightlifting! She snatched 85kg and clean and jerked 106kg, earning a new competition personal best in both lifts. She placed 4th in her session out of 14, and 29th overall. Her 191 total is a seven kilo increase above her performance at nationals.
With this important competitive and emotional milestone behind her, she’s more excited and motivated than ever to keep up her hard work and continue to improve. Over the next few weeks, we’re going to be setting new goals, planning new events, scheduling more competitions.
We want to give a big “thank you” to Souheil El Kaissi, Lebanon Weightlifting, and the LOC for their work in making Hala’s participation possible; to Charles Paiva for his programming and head coaching; to Peter Roselli for his mentorship during the competition; to Mohammad and Susan Fattouh (Hala’s Parents), Russell Paiva (my father), Team Florida Volusia County and the participants of the Volusia AO Qualifier competition, and Ashley Lima for their financial support; to AMP Training and Team Florida Volusia County for our use of their training facilities; and to Mohamed Jaloud of the IWF for his words of encouragement for Hala’s future, and to all of Hala’s family and friends for their vocal support in both Lebanon and the US.
